Meet Sally Title

The Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN)

Co-Founder and Advisory Board Member

Sally co-founded and sat on the Advisory Board for the International Women’s Earth and Climate Initiative (IWECI) and Summit, now the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN).

The mission of WECAN is to accelerate a global women's climate action movement to lead on-the-ground solutions and influence national and international policy.

WECAN engages women worldwide as powerful stakeholders in climate change and sustainability solutions. From encouraging local food production, advocating for renewable energy, prioritizing a rights-based approach to change, and defending the natural world, WECAN supports women's leadership through trainings, capacity-building, lobbying, direct action, advocacy (inside and outside of UN spaces), and strategic events for a just and sustainable planet.

The WECAN Network was developed out of the International Women's Earth & Climate Summit, held on September 20 – 23, 2013 in New York. The Summit brought together 100 global women leaders including Christina Figueres, Dr. Jane Goodall, Maggie Fox, Vandana Shiva, Nobel Laureate Jody Williams, Naomi Klein and more for three days in an effort to further a women’s climate action agenda. You may watch recorded sessions of the Summit, here.

The IWECI Summit produced two critical documents: the Summit Declaration and the Women’s Climate Action Agenda. The Summit Declaration is being distributed worldwide by allied networks and is serving as a powerful organizing tool.

The Declaration, entitled Women of the World Call for Urgent Action on Climate Change & Sustainability Solutions” calls for key actions to keep worldwide carbon emissions below a 2°C degree rise.

Additionally, WECAN is working on the following:
